Area Beaches
There are numerous spots for beachgoers to choose from in the Wilmington, NC region. Since the average summer high in the area is 90 degrees, being situated close to a beach is a major benefit, especially if you enjoy swimming, sunbathing, seafood, sailing and surfing.

Wrightsville Beach
One of the most popular beaches in New Hanover County is Wrightsville Beach. Known for having a small-beach-town charm with a vacation-style atmosphere, the island features resort hotels, vacation rentals, shops and restaurants all within footsteps from the water’s edge. It also plays host to the East Coast’s largest women’s surfing competition, the East Coast Wahine Championship. The Town of Wrightsville Beach also features a notable park with tennis and basketball courts, baseball diamond and playground, all surrounded by a 2-mile walking/biking loop.
Topsail Island
Topsail Beach and Surf City, located 30 miles north of downtown Wilmington, offers a quiet setting to those who would rather avoid large crowds. This relaxed beach town is Topsail Island's hub of shopping and entertainment. Adjacent to the area are the Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, and the Marine Corps Air Station, New River.
Pleasure Island

A drive over Snow's Cut Bridge will bring you to Pleasure Island, home
of Carolina and Kure Beach. Pleasure Island thrives with miles of sandy
beaches, surrounded by a friendly, small-town nature. Take a stroll down
the Carolina Beach boardwalk, ride the Fort Fisher Ferry, or charter a
boat for fishing and exploring the waterways.
Carolina Beach is located just 15 miles south of Wilmington. Visitors
have the choice to vacation at vintage beach motels, cottage rentals,
or colorful oceanfront condos. Hospitality has long been a trademark of
Carolina Beach. This unique resort community allows a variety of activities
including water sports, surf fishing, pier fishing, deep-sea fishing,
shopping, dining, miniature golf, and nature hikes at Carolina Beach State
Park. Residents pride themselves in keeping the beaches clean and safe.
Carolina Beach is home to a boardwalk equipped with arcades, food establishments,
and gazebo which hosts live music on the weekends. Its active charter
boat basin at the Municipal Marina offers nightly moonlight cruises with
dancing and offshore fishing excursions.
Kure Beach, North Carolina is situated a few miles south of Carolina Beach.
Guests are welcomed with old-fashioned hospitality and enjoy attractions
such as the site of the Battle of Fort Fisher, the Fort Fisher Museum
and the North Carolina Aquarium. Kure Beach is mostly residential, dotted
with ocean-view motels, condos and cottages. At the small town center,
you’ll find the Kure Beach Pier (one of the East Coast’s longest
fishing piers), several fresh seafood restaurants, a convenience store
and amusements.
