The Hampstead Area
Hampstead, North Carolina is located in Pender County, a once small fishing village that has grown over the years into a suburban town and commercial area. The town is accessed by State Highway 210 and US Highway 17, and offers convenient access to Wilmington, NC, Camp Lejune in Jacksonville, NC and I-40. Hampstead is best known for its thriving golf courses, abundant woodlands, proximity to Topsail beaches, and friendly communities. Pender County is rich in wildlife. In fact, the Holly Shelter Game Preserve is the largest state-controlled hunting preserve on the East Coast. Its game lands contain rare and endangered species of plants, such as pitcher plants, venus fly traps, and wild orchids. For water-lovers, there are plenty of places to explore the wonders of nature by boating, fishing or camping. Inland, there are numerous venues for dining, shopping or discovering treasures at the various antique shops.

Hampstead is well known for affordable golfing opportunities. In comparison with other areas of the Coastal Carolinas, such as Myrtle Beach, the courses remain reasonably priced. Hampstead is now the home to four of the top golf courses in southeastern North Carolina: Castle Bay Golf Club, Olde Point Golf Club, Belvedere Plantation Golf Club, and Topsail Greens Golf Club. Each of these is centered in residential developments where you can live in the same place as you golf.
Each year, Hampstead plays host to a number of fun and exciting events: the North Carolina Spot Festival, Pender County Springfest, the Relay For Life, the Hampstead Expo, Scots Heritage Day, Blueberry Festival, North Carolina Seafood Festival and many more. Hampstead is quickly becoming a destination for those who prefer a simpler lifestyle that a small Southern town can offer, over the hustle and bustle of the crowded city.
There are two elementary schools in Hampstead: North and South Topsail Elementary. Plans for a third (Central Topsail Elementary) have also recently been approved. There is one middle school (Topsail Middle School) and one high school, Topsail High School, which has recently been placed in a brand new, multi-million dollar facility, replacing the decades-old building.

Pender County is presently expanding its county water system for the Hampstead area and is planning to add a sewer system in the future. This will encourage growth and bring in more commercial and residential development. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has proposed a bypass around Hampstead that ties the new I-140 bypass around Wilmington to the south and west. This would also greatly improve infrastructure to facilitate more growth to the area.
Because of lower tax and property rates, Hampstead has become an up-and-coming place to live where retirees and first-home buyers alike are finding unique opportunities for their home investments. In fact, many families from all over the country have found Hampstead to be an excellent place to raise a family or settle after retirement.
