Leland Area
Brunswick County, NC has recently been rated by CNNMoney.com as being one of the top 30 fastest-growing counties in the country, and Leland is quickly becoming a hotspot for new home communities in the Coastal Carolinas. Located just west of the Cape Fear and Brunswick Rivers and Historic Downtown Wilmington, Leland offers residents and businesses abundant natural beauty, small town atmosphere and considerable economic potential with its low tax rate. It’s no wonder so many people are flocking here to call Leland their home. And with its warm climate, low cost of living, and excellent location providing convenient access to Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, Southport and area beaches, Leland continues to grow in southeastern North Carolina.

With the boom of residential growth, Leland has emerged as the centerpiece
of northern Brunswick County’s continuing economic expansion. In
recent years, the town has seen the construction of a number of commercial
centers, businesses and restaurants. Hotels, grocery stores, and national
retailers continue to pop up and provide convenient access for residents’
necessities.
Leland is the home to a beautiful championship golf course, several parks
and trails, numerous churches, a library, two industrial parks, and quality
schools including North Brunswick High School, Leland Middle School, and
Brunswick County Community. Cape Fear Community College and the University
of North Carolina at Wilmington are also just a short drive away.
Leland has emerged as the centerpiece of northern Brunswick County’s continuing economic expansion.
The town has transformed much since its early days in the 1890s as a railroad junction. Nearly 100 years later, Leland was officially incorporated as a town in 1989. Since then, and especially in the last decade, the town has exploded with new developments, jobs, and residents. In only four years, Leland’s population grew nearly 200% from 5,189 in 2004 to over 9,600 in 2008. Moreover, since 2000 the average home price has nearly doubled in value, making Leland an excellent possibility for investment.
The town itself has doubled its geographic size with the expansion of the Brunswick Forest residential/commercial development. Combined with the town’s other flagship developments – Magnolia Greens, Waterford, Mallory Creek, Westport and Westgate – Leland is now the largest municipality in Brunswick County. Despite its progress, the Town of Leland is committed to maintaining its small-town quality of life as it enters this new era of growth and prosperity.
